BONGOS
Bongo is mainly played while people chill out under the tree or at celebrations. It can also be played with other instruments or in bands etc. It is played like a thumb piano whilst tapping on the side.

As with most African instruments bongo is made by a mixture of improvisation and skill. Africans love their music but don’t have the money to buy expensive instruments so they make them.
Bongos are usually made from half a calabash (like a big gourd) or a wooden box with a half moon hole on the front.

Hacksaw blades are the cut to different lengths and attached to the bongo with a piece of wood and two screws. A thin metal rod is put underneath the blades. To tune a bongo the blades are moved backwards and forwards until you get the right sound.
Jahman also offers Bongo lessons.
